Interview - Monique & Daniel

Wedding Date | 6/10/2019

How did you both meet?

We met on the train down from Sutherland to Wollongong Uni just before Easter 2009. A mutual friend introduced us and we spent the whole train ride chatting. We became friends and Daniel asked me out in September 2009.

How did he pop the question?

Daniel organized a trip on the Australia Day long weekend in 2018 with some of our close friends down to Melbourne to visit some friends who had moved there. We went wine tasting in the Yarra Valley and he got down on one knee at the Chandon Estate and ask me to marry him.

What type of wedding did you plan, what was your theme?

All we wanted was a simple wedding where everyone could party. We didn’t have a theme, other than for it to be chilled and fun.

Which quirky features made your wedding unique?

Daniel added his love of beer to the wedding where we brought 5 growlers and squealers and had dried flowers in them as centerpieces for the bar tables/barrels at the back of the room. We got this idea from a recent brewery crawl we had done.

Also, we managed to score an awesome MC, Steve Carfino, who I became friends with through my work. He was an absolute hit amongst the guests!

Where did you hold the ceremony?

Our ceremony was at “The Cannons”, facing north up the coast. It was beautifully set up by City Beach and they took all the stress away from our day.

Why did you choose City Beach?

As soon as we walked into the room, we knew City Beach would be a hard to beat. The room was spacious, there were ocean views with a private outdoor area, and the room was set up beautifully for the open day. But then we sat down with Mel and she took us through EVERYTHING that was included. Our minds were made up straight away and the last few places we looked at didn’t compete at all. There was an extensive food menu to choose from, there was a great drinks package where we were also allowed to bring our own spirits, there were extra inclusions that other venues don’t have such as a DJ. Even down to the minor things that stress people out such as table numbers, a box for cards, and even the easels to display signs – all included. It felt like we hardly had to do anything.

What was the most memorable moment from the day?

When I think back to the wedding, I remember having the best day ever and having so much fun celebrating with friends and family.

Also, Daniel put on a surprise serenade for me after our first dance to a Backstreet Boys song which was hilarious and had everyone singing along.

What was it like dealing with Wedding Coordinator Melissa?

We felt like the wedding was way too easy for us. Mel’s attention to detail is next level. She was great at offering advice and suggestions, was very responsive to emails and made us feel like we were the only people getting married.

What’s your No.1 go to song that had to be included in your playlist?

Sweet Caroline – Neil Diamond

This song holds a special place in Daniel’s and his family’s heart and had everyone up on the dancefloor as the last song of the night.

Who was your dream team for the day?
Venue | City Beach Function Centre
Photographer | Mark Banas Photography
Stylist | No stylist needed when City Beach does it all
Florals | My cousin Bree Parker did the arrangements. (Bree, myself and my Maid of Honour all went to the flower markets together to buy it all 2 days before)
Cake | Delaneys
MC | Steve Carfino

Any advice for couples about to tie the knot?

Stress less. It’s your wedding, not anyone else’s. Plan the wedding you want, not the wedding you think you need to have.
