City Beach caught up with newlyweds  to ask them a few questions about their special day.

How did you both meet?

Like most modern day fairytales, our story started at Corrimal pub! At that time we were just friends, but I quickly realized that I wanted to get to know Shannon in a romantic sense, I asked a mutual friend if they could find out if Shannon was interested and the next thing Shannon had sent me a message on Facebook… it was purely coincidental and it turned out that said mutual friend hadn’t yet spoken to Shannon!

How did he pop the question?

There were a few false starts here, most notarial the time when Shannon took me out for a fancy dinner for valentine’s day and then suggested a walk by the lighthouse, it was so romantic and I was thinking “This is it” but before I knew he was bustling me back in the car and back home with no proposal. It was another 2 years after that fateful night that the actual proposal happened, again we were out at the lighthouse in Wollongong (now a running joke among our friends), and as I turned to read a lovelock I noticed Shannon getting down on one knee with the ring out, it was such a blur but by all accounts I screamed and snatched that ring out of Shannon’s hands before he had chance to change his mind!

What type of wedding did you plan, what was your theme?

From the outset we always wanted a traditional wedding; a sit down meal with all of the formalities was exactly what we had envisaged. In regards to theme, ours felt “rustic vintage”; lots of white, pearls, lace, hessian and dusty pink. Inspire Love did a fantastic job of our décor. https://www.facebook.com/inspireloveweddingandeventhire

All of our amazing photos, which perfectly captured our special day, were done through the lovely Anna Blackman from Anna Blackman Images http://annablackman.com.au/

Where did you hold the ceremony?

We held the ceremony at Bulli Anglican Church, the church held a fair bit of sentimentality as I used to drive past it every day and think “that’s where I’m going to get married”! Most of our guests were local to Bulli, so convenience was also a factor as well as having a concrete wet weather location.

Why did you choose City Beach?

We choose City Beach because we loved the location, nothing else can compare to their views of the beach and lighthouse – now an incredibly sentimental spot for us!

I loved the private balcony that our guests could use, we dressed high cocktail tables and had seating out there to create an additional space for guests to chill-out in and really take in that sensational view during cocktail hour and well into the night!

We also adored the floor to ceiling windows in the reception room, during dinner everybody could look out over the water and it felt really light and airy inside.

The food was also a really important factor for us; the menu City Beach presented really appealed to us and certainly didn’t disappoint, it was really lovely that we had the opportunity to attend a tasting which helped us narrow down our selection but also allowed us to spend some time at the venue before the big day, which was really special.

We really appreciated that City Beach had fostered such great relationships with other wedding vendors, it made the selection process much easier for us and we were confident knowing that the vendors we picked were familiar with the venue, it really took a great deal of stress out of the planning, which any bride knows can be quite overwhelming at time.

It’s also very central to Wollongong CBD which made it easy for our guests to venture into town after the reception ended.

What was the most memorable moment from the day?

One of the most memorable moments would be our entrance into the reception room at City Beach. It was really exciting to be announced as Mr. and Mrs. for the first time it was quite a spectacular reveal from behind the entry curtains and the MC made it really exciting, our bridal party entering first doing silly dancing to music before it was our turn, it was really fun and set the tone for the rest of the evening.

Your favourite funny story from the night?

We felt so well looked after by City Beach and that the team were taking care of everything that all the stress of the planning just fell away and we felt we could relax and just enjoy the night. Shannon’s usually quite a reserved person, but he must have been having a great time and really let loose. A one point I turned around and noticed somebody doing the “worm” on the dance floor, on closer inspection I realized that it was my new husband!

What was it like dealing with Wedding Coordinator Amy Young?

Amy was amazing; I really struggle putting into words just how far she went for us. She was so accommodating and responsive through the entire planning process, so we always felt that we were in good hands. Nothing was too much for her and she really went above and beyond in helping us and making sure our vision for the day was brought to life. She had fantastic ideas in regards to the set-up and event décor – at times I felt like I had my own personal wedding planner! Whenever I called up she knew immediately who I was and could recall our wedding details, she even remembered aunties and cousins names! I was really shocked when we arrived at the reception venue after 6pm and Amy was there to greet us, but it goes to show she genuinely cares.
