How did you both meet?

We both met on our first day of Year 7 at Evans High School, Blacktown when we were put into the same class. Our maths teacher Miss Macan who also attended our wedding, sat us together in Year 10 as she thought we looked cute. We became a couple in Year 11 and are still together 25 years later!

How did he pop the question?

In September 2015, we finally went on our dream holiday to Canada & Alaska. Tim proposed in Denali National Park, Alaska during a 5km hike into the snow capped wilderness. It was very special & took me by surprise but we didn’t hang around long as we were all alone & it was home to bears, wolves & moose!

What type of wedding did you plan, what was your theme?

We wanted a wedding that was a celebration with our close family & friends that also coincided on our anniversary weekend. Our colours were silver for 25 years & different shades of our favourite colour blue. I also wore a blue wedding dress. We love the beach too so that was the overall theme with “starfish” the main focus.

Which quirky features made your wedding unique?

We aren’t very traditional so there were a lot of different & personal things we incorporated into our wedding. The Ocean Room was the perfect space to turn into our beach paradise. Instead of table numbers, our seating chart was set up as islands we have visited. Each island table included a frame with a photo of us with some facts of that particular holiday. We also had a bottle of Montrose wine on each table to represent the new family name.

Where did you hold the ceremony?

Our ceremony was meant to be on Flagstaff Hill but we had to go into wet weather back up, so it was held in the City Beach Ocean Room. They set up the archway, aisle & ceremony chairs on the dance floor, with the balcony door opened up so we could see & hear the ocean. With everyone in the one place after it, we could do professional photos with most of our guests on the balcony before our reception started. They turned out to be some of our favourite pics.

Why did you choose City Beach?

From our first meeting, they were very friendly & professional so we knew they would be easy to work with. The location and views were amazing. They provided a lot of inclusions and were very accommodating with all our different requests. Nothing was ever a hassle & their planning was impeccable. The menus are very extensive so don’t forget to enjoy the food and drinks you have chosen for your reception!

What was the most memorable moment from the day?

There were many great memories so it’s difficult to pick one in particular. Our first look on Flagstaff Hill was very emotional. To finally tie the knot after 25 years & officially become husband & wife. Overall our entire wedding was very personal, funny & a really special time spent with family & friends that we will never forget.

What was it like dealing with Wedding Coordinator Amy Young?

Amy is amazing and very thorough at her job. She made the entire process fun & easy. We had a few wedding coordinators overall with some staff changes but it didn’t matter, as all the City Beach team are a great to deal with.

What’s your No.1 go to song that had to be included in your playlist?

It’s too hard to choose one as we are both very much into music, so it was a top priority at our wedding. We are also into movies, so there were a few soundtracks including the Top Gun Theme to walk down the aisle, which amused some guests! We also had song request cards as part of our wedding RSVP’s, so every song played was chosen by us & our guests. It was cool to look around and see everyone enjoy their music & be motivated to get on the dance floor.

Who was your photographer for the day?

Lucie Zeka Wedding Photography. They provided 2 photographers with Alban Zeka also doing videography for the formal parts. The Zekas are a lovely couple who have a very natural style & approach to their photography.

Any advice for couples about to tie the knot?

Never lose focus of the main reason behind all the planning, that is getting married to the person of your dreams! Your wedding is a special occasion to celebrate you as a couple. Work with people you are comfortable with so you get all your requirements covered. Be prepared & don’t stress when things don’t go entirely to plan, there’s a lot to juggle & nobody notices. Just enjoy your celebration & everyone else will follow your lead & have a good time too.
