Interview Kelly & Daniel https://citybeach.events/blog/2022/09/interview-kelly-and-daniel How did you both meet?

Daniel had played football with my brothers for many years so we had always known each other. We started talking at a function in 2016, continued to catch up on nights out and started dating in 2017.

Who popped the question & how?

Daniel planned a weekend to Sydney staying at our favourite hotel. I thought it was just like any other weekend away to Sydney until we arrived and I opened the door to find rose petals scattered everywhere. It led to “will you marry me” being written out in rose petals on the bed.

What type of wedding did you plan? What was your theme?

After looking at several venues, we knew that City Beach was the venue for us. We loved the relaxed beach surrounds and amazing views. Our theme was natural, rustic/beachy which fitted with the venue amazingly. We wanted our wedding to be a relaxed and enjoyable night with our closest family and friends, and we were definitely happy with the outcome!

Where did you hold your ceremony?

We were married at Unanderra Immaculate Conception Church. This was special for us because we both went to primary school at St Pius X.

What was it like dealing with Wedding Coordinators, Melissa & Michele?

Every step of the planning process went smoothly. Any questions I had were answered and things were explained so well. I never felt pressured and was able to communicate with the girls very easily.

What’s your No 1 go to song that HAD to be included in your playlist?

We had listened to James Arthur ‘Say you won’t let go’ many times over the years and we always knew it would be the song for our first dance.

What was your most memorable moment from the day?

Walking back down the aisle through all our family and friends after saying our vows and being greeted by them as they came out of the church is a moment we will always remember.

What was the funniest thing that happened?

We had so many laughs while getting our photos taken with our bridesmaids and groomsmen. They played a special part in our wedding and these moments will always be cherished.

What parts made you cry?

There were a few emotional moments throughout the day. Seeing each other for the first time, having family travel to be with us and our first dance, were some of those moments.

Any advice for couples about to tie the knot?

Don’t let the stress get to you, enjoy the day and have fun because it will go so quickly.

Interview Taylor & Keti https://citybeach.events/blog/2022/09/interview-taylor-and-keti How did you both meet?

We knew each other in High School but Keti reached out to me years after and here we are!

Who popped the question & how?

Keti had arranged to surprise me after work. I had got to the front door and he met me there to my surprise all suited up with the lights off, candles lit around the house and rose petals leading us out to the backyard where it was beautifully set up and in front of our families, he asked me if I would marry him. What was special about this, was that we were at my Nan and Pa’s house (who are no longer with us) and he knew how much they meant to me. By proposing to me here, it was the closest we would be to them.

What type of wedding did you plan? What was your theme?

We originally had a grand wedding in mind. However, after postponing four times over three years due to covid and having a baby in that time, We had a change of heart and perspective and wanted our wedding to be on the smaller scale of things with just our closest friends and family around us.

Our theme was quite minimal as our beautiful venue at city beach made enough of an impact.

What quirky features made your wedding unique?

I wouldn’t say quirky but definitely celebrating my Husband’s culture with our family and friends was a very special aspect of our wedding.

We had my brother and Keti’s cousin MC our reception and they made it more personal and added a few jokes throughout the night too!

Our DJ was also awesome in creating such a fun vibe!!

Where did you hold your ceremony?

Originally wanted to hold it at the cannons. However, with the crazy weather, we decided to hold it in the Ocean Room which was such a great choice and the view was absolutely stunning and all of our guests were comfortable and not walking/driving around from venue to venue.

Why did you choose City Beach?

City beach was the first venue we looked at and straight away we were sold! I wanted to escape the suburbs where we live and make a little getaway out of our wedding also (this can be challenging with a baby – so Wollongong was the perfect place). The views and the space were perfect to us and not too far away from home.

What was it like dealing with Wedding Coordinators, Melissa & Michele?

AMAZING! Planning a wedding is hard enough, let alone through covid lockdowns and restriction changes (numerous times), andddd having a baby! Melissa and Michele were always so accommodating and understanding. Their swift responses were very reassuring and their flexibility to work around our forever changing plans was second to none.

What’s your No 1 go to song that HAD to be included in your playlist?

My Nanna had just passed away a few days before our wedding. Her favourite song was The Eagle Rock and we would play it at all family events just for her. So, we found it fitting to play on our day and it was such a special moment to be surrounded by my family, cousins, aunty and uncles while we danced to the Eagle Rock for our Nanna!

What was your most memorable moment from the day?

I have too many! I would have to say walking down the aisle with my Dad and seeing my Husband and my Son at the end of the aisle.

Any advice for couples about to tie the knot?

Don’t sweat the small stuff! As beautiful/exciting as all the decorations, centerpieces and the “big show” can be, they call come at such an expense and can be quite stressful. As long as your wedding is full of love.. The day will be the most beautiful day of your life (even without all the bells and whistles).

Also take a moment away from everyone with your partner. My husband and I actually snuck off after we cut our cake at the reception and took some photos on the beach (in the rain and wind) but spending some quality time to reflect on what just happened (WE GOT MARRIED!!!!) was such a nice moment to have.

Lastly, it’s YOUR day. Don’t let other people’s opinions impact you.

What was the funniest thing that happened?

The speeches from our bridal party had us in stitches!

What parts made you cry?

Seeing my Dad when I was in my dress, having a brief moment with him before we walked down the aisle and he held my hand and kissed me on the forehead, seeing my husband and son down the aisle, speeches, and of course my father/daughter dance.

Interview Prianca & Karan https://citybeach.events/blog/2022/08/interview-prianca-and-karan How did you both meet?

We met in high school! We were in the same English class & debating team in Year 10 (2008), became really good friends and very regularly chatted on MSN back in the day! Eventually our friendship progressed into something further and the rest is history

Who popped the question & how?

We were living together for quite some time as if we were already a married couple! We would talk a lot about the future together, so it was no surprise that both of us eventually wanted to marry each other. We always had conversations of when we would like to be engaged and married, so we were both very much involved in the process of picking out an engagement ring, planning the wedding, etc. We picked up the engagement ring when it was ready, went for a stroll in the city and took some pictures to capture the special moment. Technically, neither of us have “popped the question”!

Where did you hold your ceremony?

We held our ceremony at the cannons in Wollongong, adjacent to City Beach Function Centre. Thank you to the team at City Beach Function Centre for making it happen!

Why did you choose City Beach?

We always wanted a beachfront wedding and saw that the venue was able to accommodate for and host Indian weddings! We are from Sydney and we liked how the venue was in Wollongong, it was a nice weekend away and not too far for guests to travel! Also had a great time viewing the venue and hit it off straightaway with the Wedding Coordinator Michele!

What was it like dealing with Wedding Coordinators, Melissa & Michele?

The City Beach Function Centre team are absolutely amazing! We primarily dealt with Michele who was incredible. Planning a wedding is daunting enough as it is, and Michele made the entire process so seamless and easy. Planning the wedding day during COVID lockdown was just as easy as Michele was so accommodating and understanding throughout the entire time of working with her. We were so incredibly grateful to have her as our wedding coordinator!

What’s your No 1 go to song that HAD to be included in your playlist?

We never really have our own special song (not so romantic). But, we both immediately agreed on having “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons as our entrance song for the reception! Oh, and you can’t have a wedding without “Forever” by Chris Brown (which was our exit song)

What was your most memorable moment from the day?

Besides the ceremony, our favourite and memorable moment of the day was the time in between the wedding and reception – We were both able to finally catch up as husband and wife and chat about the ceremony and all that went down! That was the cherry on the cake as we were able to immediately bond over the special moment we just experienced. The wedding day is an absolute whirlwind (in the best way) but the times where you can pause and unwind with your life partner is just as special.

Any advice for couples about to tie the knot?

Not everything will go to plan so make sure you relax, let it slide and just enjoy the experience! A lot of the things that did not go to plan for us ended up being funny memories that we love to share with our friends and family.

Remember that the overall objective is to officially unite with your forever-partner, and everything else that comes with the wedding (photos, decorations, outfits, the experience, etc.) are amazing things that just make the day even more special! Social media platforms such as Instagram, Pinterest etc. are great places to reference for wedding ideas, and some of these photos may capture extravagant weddings, but remember to not be daunted by this – do what YOU want for your wedding and what resonates with you and your partner. Everyone’s wedding day is different!

And last but not least, your bridal party (if you have one) is there for you to be your #1 support throughout the entire experience, don’t be afraid to lean on them!

What was the funniest thing that happened?

The photographer initially thought that one of the groomsmen was the groom and spent and unusual amount of time taking photos of him…Eventually the groom caught on and told the photographer that he was the groom! They had to delete the photos and start again

Tips to master a rainy-day wedding https://citybeach.events/blog/2022/03/tips-to-master-a-rainyday-wedding Rain on your wedding day; It’s one of the most feared situations for many couples. But should it be? Absolutely not!

Hours spent scrolling through Pinterest, creating boards that bring your wedding dreams to life. Most brides spend more time planning their special day than they’d care to admit (Guilty). From the location, to the colour scheme, to the flowers – the day is planned out to a T, but one ultimate question remains…what will we do if it rains?

With the right wedding coordinator, venue, planning and attitude, rain on your wedding day doesn’t have to be stressful. Here are 5 ways how…

☂️ Find an expert, organised and empathetic wedding coordinator

The skillset of your wedding coordinator can be the make or break of your special day. Wedding coordinators are your saving grace…there’s just one catch, they can’t control the weather. They can, however, help provide the best alternatives possible if your ideal plans are affected by less-than-ideal weather. Additionally, make sure to feel like you ‘click’ with your wedding coordinator. After all, they’re the ones you’ll trust to bring your wedding hopes to life.

Expert tip: Finding a venue with an in-house wedding coordinator ensures you are working with someone who knows their location from the inside out.

☂️ Discuss the venue’s options and make sure to have a wet weather backup

In the initial planning phase, discuss your wet weather options and ensure there is a stress-free, equally beautiful alternative available with your selected venue. It’s always the best idea to ensure the package you purchase has a wet weather backup included in the price and you know exactly what that alternative looks like. Make sure you and your wedding coordinator are on the same page about your hopes for the day and don’t be afraid to ask questions!!

Expert tip: When Pinterest’ing, also make a board for your rainy-day back up and try to achieve a cohesive theme that’s easily transferrable from your Plan A to Plan B.

☂️ When selecting a wedding photographer, ask to see their ‘rainy weddings’ portfolio as well

Every good wedding photographer knows that overcast weather brings a whole new feel and electricity to photography. Before you get your heart set on a certain photographer, make sure you see their rainy-day work as well! Not only will it give you some insight into their creativity, but it will also allow you to gain some inspiration should you be shooting in wet weather.

☂️ Visualise your wedding in rainy-day photography

When considering your ‘dream wedding’, don’t just picture your set-up outdoors. Picture dreamy wedding photographs snuggled up to your S.O. under an umbrella – just the two of you inside a rainy-day love bubble. When you recognise the beauty that is rainy day wedding snaps, the idea won’t seem quite so disappointing. Trust us.

Expert tip: Want to gain some inspo? Check out our ‘Rainy-Day Weddings’ board on Pinterest here!

☂️ Be open-minded

You’ll still be married to your best friend. Your friends and family will still share a special memory with you. Focus on the positives. Visualise and dream about an indoor, rainy day alternative as well, so it’s equally as exciting as your plan A. Your day will be beautiful – don’t let the weather rain on your parade (pun intended).

There’s more good news! ALL City Beach Function Centre ceremony packages include a wet weather alternative. Our picturesque ocean-view rooms provide a rainy-day alternative that is sure to make you smile.

9 Reasons to LOVE Winter Weddings https://citybeach.events/blog/2022/02/9-reasons-to-love-winter-weddings October to February is often considered the height of wedding season, when the weather is (usually) warm and sunny. But is this REALLY the best time of year to tie the knot?

Here’s our top 9 reasons for getting married in winter;

❤️ Better Availability & Lower Rates

Due to popular demand, most venues and vendors book up quickly during the summer months (sometimes years in advance) - we're all familiar with the supply/demand fundamentals, peak time will come with a peak price tag! Less competitive months will benefir from greater availability with your preferred vendors and alos, most importantly "Winter Rates".

According to Easy Weddings, winter weddings will cost approximately $6k less than the average wedding cost <Don't believe us? Click here>

But this is Australia people, we’re not busting out the snow boots & balaclavas just yet. Another bonus? You're likely to get your wedding pics back faster as your photographer is less slammed in the summer/spring months.

❤️ Bonus Inclusions

To boost winter bookings, you will find many vendors offering extra inclusions or all-in packages for couples wishing to tie the knot in less popular months. So not only do you benefit from lowers rate, but you also get stacks of extras to sweeten the deal.

❤️ European Honeymoon in Summer

International borders have finally reopened...LET'S CELEBRATE WITH A EUROPEAN SUMMER! We know, you can just get married in January and wait 6 months before you jet off on your honeymoon, but there’s nothing quite like leaving on that wedding high (and letting your family and friends clean up the reception styling *evil laugh*), and by the time you get back… Yay, your photos are back from the photographer and you are sun kissed and ready for Aussie summer!

❤️ Those Pink Sunsets

Think these sunsets are a luck of the draw? Think again!

It’s actually quiet scientific.

The colours of a sunrise or sunset are based on how light is entering and traveling through the atmosphere. So, when it's hazy out, the sunrise or sunset colours will be more muted. When the air is crisp and clear, these twilight hours will offer up more vibrant colours and turn your wedding photos from gorgeous to DIVINE!

❤️ No hot mess

Cooler weather means it’s easier to keep your cool… Perfectly coiffed hair falls flat in humidity, the smoothest of manes can be frizzified and don’t mention the melting make-up. Dreamy outdoor ceremony spots can quickly lose their appeal for our suited counterparts on glorious 30+ degree days.

❤️ Less chance of rain

Did you know that the lowest mean number of rainy days in NSW fall between June – Aug? #Mindblown

❤️ Reduce Wedding Fatigue

Let’s face it, attending a wedding as a guest can be expensive. If you’re close to the couple there are plenty of pre-wedding events tugging at your purse stringd (Bridal showers, hen parties & bucks weekends), add in the cost of a new outfit and you’re already considering an overdraft before you slip a few pineapples into the wedding card. Relieve the financial burden for guests by holding your wedding in winter when social calendars are quieter and everyone has time to recover financially before Christmas.

❤️ Less stress

With less chance of rain, ease of booking coveted vendors, lower cost and that European honeymoon to look forward, we guarantee the planning process will be a breeze!

❤️ Wedding flowers that don't wilt

With the cooler weather in winter months, wedding flowers such as floral arbours can last better outdoors and your wedding bouquet can last longer out of water and not risk looking wilted in your wedding photos.

A room to think https://citybeach.events/blog/2021/08/a-room-to-think A ROOM TO THINK

There are a number of ways we can optimize learning and create more productive meeting environments by harnessing the brainpower of your delegates.

Studies investigating how we learn and best ways to present information during meetings have revealed that brain-friendly meetings are held in spaces which consider;

 • ergonomic principles
 • effective lighting,
 • biophilia (the affinity of human beings for other life forms)

These attributes contribute not just to physical comfort, but also mental sharpness and productivity.

Each of these elements can be leveraged in ways that maximize attendees' focus and their ability to retain information.

LIGHTING
Lighting, which plays a tremendous part in a person's state of mind, is visible but often overlooked at meetings.

Getting the lighting right can be a tricky business. If the room is too dark, people feel lethargic; too bright and people get agitated. Not surprisingly, flickering fluorescent bulbs are not ideal for sharp thinking.

However, a natural outdoor light, stimulates the eyes' photoreceptors and suppresses the release of melatonin, which prevents drowsiness

There may be times during your event where more darkness is required for presentations, it is advisable that the room can quickly be made darker and then return back to natural light as soon as possible to keep attendees stimulated.

ERGONOMICS
Something as simple as a chair can affect a meeting. A chair that is well designed and appropriately adjusted is an essential element of a productive meeting. A good chair provides necessary support to the back, legs, buttocks, and arms, while reducing awkward postures.

BIOPHILIA

Biophilia is described as a humans' innate tendency to focus on living things, as opposed to the inanimate.

Studies reveal that interactions with nature result in positive gains in productivity and learning comprehension.
Not only do plants help relieve stress, but they also help purify the air as well and have a number of health benefits, including enhanced mental stamina.

KEEP IT SIMPLE
It is important to remember that the human brain has a limited amount of processing power. As a result, it is important to reduce visual clutter. Delegates can stay organized and productive with an open-room design/layout.

KEEP IT BRIEF
Beyond the environment, the meeting schedule itself should be taken into consideration. It's important to remember the brain needs to digest information before more can be added. Brain experts recommend a break after 1.5 hours of work to keep participants focused. The break doesn't have to be long; just 10 to 15 minutes. It should also give attendees the chance to get up and move around. – where better than our beachfront terrace

Studies have shown that the average person can pay attention in a meeting for approximately 20 minutes before starting to fade, after which time, it is advisable to change the speaker or alter the format of the meeting. Breaks do more than add precious minutes to your meeting agenda. They can actually produce a more effective meeting.

The benefits of natural light in your event space. https://citybeach.events/blog/2021/06/the-benefits-of-natural-light-in-your-event-space As an event organiser there are likely many aspects of a function space that you need to consider when searching for the right function space; space & layout, packages, location, accessibility & parking, services and amenities, audio & visual, accommodation, to name a few. But do you consider the availability of natural light? Unfortunately this is often overlooked but its benefits to delegate mental wellbeing should make it a top priority.

Poor lighting can cause eye strain, headaches and fatigue, to name a few. Protecting the mental health and wellbeing of delegates is one of the most important priorities for event organisers.

The benefits of natural light in the space

Exposure to overpowering artificial lighting for extended periods can lead to concentration levels dropping. When looking for the perfect meeting or conference room, therefore, taking advantage of premises with lots of natural light should be a top priority.

Increase productivity and focus

As event organisers we all want our meetings and conferences to be engaging and productive. And while the content is important in encouraging attendance, the hard work could be wasted if the right room is not selected.

Boosting the amount of natural light that delegates are exposed to helps delegates focus better. Studies show that those who spent more time in daylight feel more alert. With improved focus and alertness, organisers will notice that those attending these events will be more productive.

Feel more connected

Some of the health benefits of natural light are linked to the fact that humans feel a need to be connected with the natural environment.

At City Beach our two event spaces feature floor-to-ceiling windows capturing the magnificent ocean outlook – flooding the rooms with natural light. Furthermore, the pillarless design showcase unobstructed views from all placements and private balconies to revel in the fresh sea air.

Encourage engagement

Further studies explore that natural light at work leads to people feeling more switched on and willing to collaborate with others. Creating an engaging environment which encourages those within it to work together as a team.

A boost in team working and communication results in better collaboration of ideas between delegates.

Final thoughts...

Choosing a meeting room with high levels of natural daylight can increase concentration levels and should be a key consideration when selecting your next venue. When you combine daylight with natural breaks and energising tasks, you will be able to create an environment which puts productivity and the mental health of your delegates first.

Get in touch with our team to find out more about the best way to a brighter event.

How did you both meet?

We met in 2010, when we both started working at Woolworths Culburra Beach, but we didn’t start dating until 2012.

Who popped the question & how?

We were celebrating our 6 year anniversary in Melbourne. We had always agreed that 6 years was our magic number. We both had engagement rings for each other, ready to propose. Aaron won and proposes at 11.50pm on our anniversary night.

What type of wedding did you plan? What was your theme?

Our wedding theme was to have fun and relax. We wanted our wedding to be a party and just an all round easy night. For both us and our guests.

What quirky features made your wedding unique?

Our wedding was unique because it was midweek on a Wednesday! We wanted to celebrate on our anniversary date and meant we only had our nearest and dearest. We often describe ourselves to be quirky as we don’t do anything normal or take ourselves too seriously. We channeled this into the wedding. From the bride catching a life with the lifesaver buggy and wearing a moonboot (broken foot). To not having a traditional flowers.

Where did you hold your ceremony?

On the beach, in the sand. Right in front of CityBeach. We always wanted a beach wedding.

Why did you choose City Beach?

We choose City Beach because they made everything so easy for us! Everything we wanted and needed was catered to and supplied. The team did everything for us, meaning the only thing we needed to do was show up. The location at City beach was beautiful and the perfect back drop for our day. They also have delicious food and beat most of the rest in price and inclusions

What was it like dealing with Wedding Coordinators, Melissa & Michele?

We couldn’t ask for more. They helped us every step on the way. Told us what to do and when. Made the process super easy.

What was your most memorable moment from the day?

 • Having many MANY laughs with the bridal party.
 • Taking awesome night shots.
 • The boys having a chilli eating contest, having to then chug down milk.
 • Any advice for couples about to tie the knot?
 • Take the time to spend a moment with your husband/ wife. The night will go super quick, don’t stress if you can’t make it around to everyone.

What was the funniest thing that happened?

The groomsman premature popping a bottle of bubbles during photos and the men at the wedding having a chilli eating contest.

Interview - Carla & Daniel https://citybeach.events/blog/2021/03/interview-carla-and-daniel How did you both meet?
Dan and I met on Bumble 3 years ago. We had a very brief chat on the app and a week later we met at Frankie’s Pizza. Of course it was super loud and we couldn’t really hear each other so not a great start for a first date. After a while we found a different table and were able to get to know each other better. We flirted, shared our life experiences and plans, and I could feel we had formed a good connection. After a few dates we were official and meeting each other’s families!

Who popped the question & how?
Dan and I went to Fiji together in January 2020 and stayed in the Marriott Momi Bay Resort in this beautiful lagoon front Bure. On the first day we settled, had dinner then went back to our room right after sunset. Daniel organised some cocktails and we sat outside on the deck of our Bure looking out to the lagoon. I could tell he was a bit nervous and quiet for some reason but he started telling me all the things he admired about me and how much he appreciated having me in his life. Next thing I knew he leapt off the lounge, onto one knee and asked me to marry him, presenting a beautiful teal sapphire yellow gold ring which I had pointed out to him about 6 months prior online because we had started having conversations of marriage back then. I started hysterically crying and I'm pretty sure it echoed across the whole lagoon. It was great that he proposed on the first night of our holiday because we were able to celebrate and really enjoy the time we had together before returning to everyday life and starting the planning process.

What type of wedding did you plan? What was your theme?
The styling of our wedding was modern, using colours white, gold, latte, cream, nudes and blush pink. White and gold were the base tones, as we wanted a classic and timeless foundation and the other colours added a modern flair. We kept this theme in mind throughout the planning process - how we wanted to keep things traditional and classic whilst also adding something unique and modern. For our reception, the flowers and styling were an absolute highlight. A lot of guests complimented us on how beautiful the room looked. Our florist added olive tree branches with actual olives to the arrangements on the day and it just perfectly tied in with our Italian heritage, my personal love for all things olives (literally) and our olive oil bomboniere.

What quirky features made your wedding unique?
For entertainment, we had a caricaturist wander the room and draw our guests. We also had a 20 minute performance by a Violin Stunt Duo which added something a bit different to the evening. Dan’s best man also used to play the drums for Lebanese celebrations so we had him drum along to the party music.

Where did you hold your ceremony?
We got married at St John Vianney Catholic Church where my parents got married and where I was raised as a Catholic. The ceremony for us was the most important part of the day and we chose to have a short but traditional Catholic mass using the traditional vows. We kept things simple at the church and opted out of any styling except for a welcome sign. Our priest allowed us to have a live musician and we played our favourite songs from Coldplay and Chris Isaak. Our family has so many memories in that church and it felt so special to get married there.

Why did you choose City Beach?
We chose City beach for a number of reasons: The stunning view, the large space in the room, the wonderful and helpful staff, the value for money (especially with all the inclusions), the central location and the fact that it was pretty much a blank canvas that you could do a lot with styling wise.

What was it like dealing with Wedding Coordinators, Melissa & Michele?

Both Melissa and Michele were an absolute pleasure to deal with. They were very patient with us over 100’s of emails, phone calls and meetings and answered all of our questions. As a nervous bride who was worried about all the small details, I was eased to know that the staff were so helpful, attentive and friendly.

What’s your No 1 go to song that HAD to be included in your playlist?
Cup of Life by Ricky Martin - Daniel is a huge fan of Ricky and it was a no brainer to get the party started.

What was your most memorable moment from the day?

So many precious moments! Of course walking down the aisle was so surreal because it is something you think about your whole life and especially in the lead up to the wedding. You always wonder how it's going to feel and for me I felt an overwhelming sense of calm, like I was floating on air towards the love of my life, my future. My other favourite moment was right after we arrived at the reception and Daniel and I snuck off to the beach for photos at sunset. I just remember hearing the waves crash behind us, time stood still and it was a moment that felt like it would last forever.

What parts made you cry?

Daniel and I wrote personal vows /love letters to each other and we read them on the morning of the wedding. I couldn’t help but cry as soon as I opened it. I thought I would cry walking down the aisle but I was just super happy and smiling ear to ear. I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face the whole day.

Any advice for couples about to tie the knot?

 • Book everything asap so you don’t have to miss out on vendors that you really want
 • Space your reception out so you have time to eat and talk to your guests
 • Make sure you don’t compromise on big ticket items like catering, photography and flowers as you get what you pay for and you don’t want to regret anything later
 • Make the day interactive so your guests enjoy themselves - have activities or entertainment for them if your budget allows (or find creative ways of doing this for free)
 • On the day, have an emergency kit for anything that may happen
 • Relax and enjoy the best day of your life. Its cliche, but make sure to take a deep breath, take it all in and spend a moment alone with your partner to absorb the day for what it is

Interview Christina & Joshua https://citybeach.events/blog/2021/03/interview-christina-and-joshua How did you meet?
We met at a new years eve party 2016 which happened to be Christina's 25th birthday.

Who popped the question & how?
Josh popped the question at the Sydney Observatory's New Year's Eve cocktail party, 2018. it rained on and off all night, and we spent a lot of the night hiding in doorways and cramped under a single person umbrella to keep out of the rain. At one point, Josh said he was going to get drinks but came back empty-handed, much to Chris' annoyance. During this time Josh had organised for a private pre-midnight tour of the observatory. Just before midnight, Josh invited Chris into the observatory and led her to the big tower, where amongst candles, romantic music Josh proposed. After the proposal we got to watch the 2018 NYE bridge fireworks from a private balcony with our own bottle of champagne.

What type of wedding did you plan? What was your theme?
We kind of planned it as we went. We opted for a beachfront ceremony initially but ended up moving inside due to the weather.
We tried to keep our reception classical. Rose, champagne, white and forest green were the colours.
The team at City Beach were awesome and really helped capture our vision with the addition of peacock chairs and chandeliers.
We wanted our wedding to be fun so we had a photobooth.

What quirky features made your wedding unique?
We didn't do anything incredibly out there, but we had features that were sentimental and special to us. The bride and bridesmaids had flowers made by Chris' mum and nan. The groomsmen had fun socks that represented their unique personalities. We handpicked photo booth props based on our guests. Our cake was a combination of our favourite flavours - strawberry swirl and caramel swirl.

Where did you hold your ceremony?
Inside the City Beach Function Centre due to the weather. It was just beautiful. The City Beach team kept an element of surprise for our reception later that evening too which was great.

Why did you choose City Beach?
We had looked at many reception venues and actually ended up driving past City Beach by chance. We had been to North Wollongong many times, but never South Wollongong.
We parked close to the lighthouse and went for a coffee one Saturday afternoon after a busy day of looking at venues. We walked past City Beach and saw the Wedding Open Day banner hanging up and thought with 5 minutes til 4pm (when it was closing) why not.
We instantly fell in love with the beautiful aesthetic and views of the beach. After meeting Caroline (the owner) and having a chat about all the wonderful things City Beach could do we were sold and booked the next day.

What was it like dealing with Wedding Coordinators, Melissa & Michele?
Melissa and Michele were awesome. They really easily took our vision and turned it into something special. The advice they provided really helped tie our reception together and made everything run smoothly. Therese ran our reception on the night and was also amazing.

What’s your No 1 go-to song that HAD to be included in your playlist?
Michael Buble! We have danced to his songs for years in our kitchen. Our first dance was to 'Everything' and there is a dance routine on YouTube we copied which included a lift - we were stoked to pull it off without falling over.

What was your most memorable moment from the day?
Josh - Seeing Chris walk down the aisle at the ceremony.
Chris - Hearing Josh's vows at the ceremony and walking out as Mr and Mrs.

What parts made you cry?
Josh - Seeing Chris for the first time walking down the aisle.
Chris - Hearing Josh's wedding vows and speech at the reception.

Any advice for couples about to tie the knot?
Before we got married we had lots of people tell us the day was a stressful and fast-paced day. To make the day easier for ourselves we pre-prepared a list of photo combinations with our photographer and planned to have all table reception photos done between entree and main courses. This meant after dinner we had the night to enjoy our time with each other and our guests. Also, don't be afraid to do your ceremony inside if it is too hot or windy. Our guests thanked us for it and it looked amazing.

Interview Courtney & Toby https://citybeach.events/blog/2021/03/interview-courtney-and-toby Our wedding like most lately was planned in the thick of covid. It was a difficult time but it didn’t shadow our excitement one bit! Our theme was blush, bright and whites. I wore my dream princess dress and I wanted our wedding to be a similar fairytale vibe.

Interview Lauren & Rob https://citybeach.events/blog/2021/02/interview-lauren-and-rob How did you both meet?

We met through a mutual friend that I knew through Spanish classes and Rob met in high school. He ended up being Robs best man at the wedding too.

Who popped the question & how?

I had been talking about us going away for a weekend for a while and so Rob decided to book us into a beautiful Airbnb in the Blue Mountains. He popped the question on our first night there overlooking the views. I was so surprised that the first thing I said when he asked was “is this a joke”. He won’t’ let me live that one down haha.

What type of wedding did you plan? What was your theme?

We had originally planned to have a winter wedding but unfortunately having our original date in the thick of COVID meant this didn’t eventuate. We ended up having a stunningly beautiful summers day in February which worked out so well because our guests absolutely loved using the balcony and having the extra day light was a bonus. Our theme was mostly soft pinks and whites in the florals and our stationery was a minimalistic black and white look.

What quirky features made your wedding unique?

One thing in particular that made our wedding unique was the fact that the best man was in the USA (unfortunately not able to get back due to travel restrictions). We knew we still wanted him to be very much part of the day, so with the help of City Beach we were able to play his best man speech on the big screen whilst also having him on zoom throughout the day’s festivities.

Where did you hold your ceremony?

We had our ceremony at St Therese Church in West Wollongong. It was the church that my parents were married in and the primary school that I attended. We instantly bonded with the priest there which made it all the more special.

Why did you choose City Beach?

The wedding packages at City Beach included everything we wanted and more. The food and drink options along with the beautiful view and super friendly staff are what drew us to the venue.

What was it like dealing with Wedding Coordinators, Melissa & Michele?

So great!! I can’t express how amazing the wedding coordinators were to deal with. We were initially dealing with Melissa until she went on Mat Leave, and then worked closing with Michele who was super helpful and so great at keeping us calm in the lead up, in particular with all the uncertainty surrounding the restrictions on numbers. Therese was also amazing to work with in the lead up and on the night.

What’s your No 1 go to song that HAD to be included in your playlist?

We kept the music choices pretty flexible but asked the DJ if he could include some Portuguese/Spanish music throughout the night for our family. It was a massive hit with the oldies.

What was your most memorable moment from the day?

Walking into the venue after being announced as Mr and Mrs and seeing all our loved ones so happy for us as we danced our way in.

Any advice for couples about to tie the knot?

After planning a wedding through a pandemic my advice would be to not sweat the small stuff and just remember that the most important part of a wedding is marrying the love of your life. There will always be things that don’t go exactly to plan, but just enjoy the process and most importantly the day because it really is the best day of your life and it goes so quickly.

What was the funniest thing that happened?

When our wedding photographer almost knocked over our wedding cake! Haha. It happened before we had done our entrance but apparently the look on our guests faces when he walked back into the cake stand and watched the cake wobble was priceless.

What parts made you cry?

All of the speeches! I’m a sucker for a good speech and listening to all the beautiful things our dads, maid of honour, best man and of course my husband had to say was the best part.

Private Moments https://citybeach.events/blog/2021/01/private-moments Why you should definitely do a room reveal ...

We often hear from our couples post-wedding and a common theme is about how quickly the day went, and that in amongst chatting to all your guests you overlooked one small thing…. each other!

That’s why we love the concept of a room reveal. But what is a room reveal we hear you ask?

Usually just the couple and lead photographer enter the reception room, for our couples this means emerging from our curtained entry into their reception room for the first time and seeing the breathtaking reception room they have created.

We appreciate how much time, thought and love is put in to creating a reception room with wow, and more often than not it is the guests who have the opportunity to appreciate this ahead of the couple.

Hours of Pinterest pinning and the result is often a room bustling with your family and friends, discarded jackets slung over those Bentwoods you coveted for so long, haphazardly placed handbags and wine rings on stunning silk table runners.

Take back that moment and steal back a few more with your newlywed.

Room reveals also provide our couples with a precious moment of privacy, to reflect on the life-changing ceremony which just took place and to capture these thoughts and feelings in your *heart-eye emoji* faces – we promise these will be the most romantic photos from the day.

Interview - Dominique & Daniel https://citybeach.events/blog/2021/01/interview-dominique-and-daniel How did you both meet?

We meet through a mutual friend. We knew each other for a few years before beginning our relationship.

Who popped the question & how?

Daniel popped the questions 1 day after our 5th anniversary. We went for a walk on part of the coastal track in the National Park and it was raining. He kept on saying that we always walk in the rain but I don't think we ever had before. He organised his friends to plan a picnic before we got there early in the morning and took me out to the furthest point with what would have been an amazing view if it wasn't raining. We still visit this spot regularly.

What type of wedding did you plan? What was your theme?

We wanted an easy wedding that was elegant but also fun with all of our family and friends. Due to Covid restrictions things had to change, however it was still the best day of our lives.

What quirky features made your wedding unique?

I am not sure if I would say quirky but we had a photobooth that was fantastic as we were not allowed dancing. I would also recommend having a live solo guitarist for your ceremony.

Where did you hold your ceremony?

Our ceremony was at Illawarra Rhododendron Gardens. The weather was perfect and the gardens were so green.

Why did you choose City Beach?

City beach exceeded our expectations. We wanted a venue on the coast, not too far for people to travel and for a reasonable price.

What was it like dealing with Wedding Coordinators, Melissa & Michele?

Beginning with Melissa was fantastic. She answered all of my questions promptly and provided us with a clear guide for the day. We were a bit nervous switching co-ordinators especially because of Covid however Michele was just as good as Melissa and their handover was seamless. She was always there to answer calls and reply to emails with the ever changing circumstances.

What’s your No 1 go-to song that HAD to be included in your playlist?

We decided to ask the guests what songs that they would like to hear on the day and had the DJ play them. The song that had to be included was our first dance song 'Everything' by Micheal Buble.

What was your most memorable moment from the day?

There were so many memorable moments from the day. The most memorable moment of the day was when Daniel and I left the reception to take photos at 'Golden Hour'. It was lovely to reflect on the day and take everything in.

Any advice for couples about to tie the knot?

Believe what everyone says about weddings. It does go way to quick! Enjoy every moment.

What was the funniest thing that happened?

The funniest thing had to be during the ceremony when the celebrant mixed up her words. Instead of saying ' When Daniel and Dominique first laid eyes on each other' she said 'When Daniel and Dominique first laid on each other'. This was brought up in the best man speech again and had everyone laughing.

What parts made you cry?

I did not cry on the day but the most emotional I got was walking down the aisle to my future husband.

Planning a wedding during Covid https://citybeach.events/blog/2020/08/planning-a-wedding-during-covid Let us take you back to your engagement. An exciting, simple time! Well… we bet this isn’t what you expected wedding planning to look like.

It has been one crazy year, and we truly feel for couples planning nuptials. Kudos to our 2020 couples! The resilience, flexibility and dedication they have shown the process and each other will hold you in good stead for married life.

Endless thanks to everyone who embraced #postponedontcancel - you WILL be married one day and when you do, it WILL be awesome!

With the majority of couples moving their dates, 2021 is going to be a busy year for the wedding industry. Here are our top tips on #planningaweddingin2020

BOOK EARLY

With 40-60% more weddings expected next year, competition is high for dates. The best chance of securing your preferred vendors is to lock them in early.

HAVE A SOLID PLAN B

If this year has taught us anything it’s that back-up plans are essential. Flexibility is key, but better yet consider Plan B your new Plan A and remove some of the stress of restrictions.

KEEP IT INTIMATE
Never have we heard the term “Micro-wedding” flung around so much, and honestly, we kinda love it. Honestly? A celebration with your closest nearest and dearest sounds perfect. Small doesn’t mean low impact – you can still create your incredible vision on a more intimate scale and it won’t discount the incredible memories you will make on your day. We’ve just launched an Intimate Package, perfectly tailored to smaller weddings, check it out <here>

CONSIDER MID-WEEK

Trust us when we say the sunset is equally as stunning here on a Tuesday as Saturday, the food is equally spectacular on a Sunday and the love, well the love is here every day of the week. Still not sold? How about these awesome wedding dates #palindrome (psst. Currently still available) 12.1.21 | 21.1.21 |21.2.21|12.11.21 | 21.12.21

NO DANCING CAN BE FUN

We know the party goes wild when Uncle Jeff pulls out his worm but alas, that may not be on the cards for a little while. Luckily we work with a brilliant MC and have already brainstormed some unique, personal and fun games to play from your table. Happy memories guaranteed! Read some of our ideas in our blog post <here>

EMBRACE THE DOWNTIME

As a poetic silver lining, this abundance of time at home gives you the chance to work on the intricate details of your event you might otherwise have never got around to. Give yourself the time to ask yourself the hard questions, to determine what is truly important to you both as a couple.

Dance alternatives for your special day https://citybeach.events/blog/2020/08/dance-alternatives-for-your-special-day Your wedding reception; it’s the best, most memorable party you’ll ever attend. As tradition goes, you’ll eat, there’ll be speeches, mingling, photos and dancing. But what if dancing was removed?

Fear not! There are plenty of ways to host a fantastic wedding reception without dancing. “Impossible” some may say! Well…we’re here to prove them wrong.

Note: food is your best friend
To fill the night, food service can be stretched out or even better...add some extra courses to pass time (helloooo antipasto platters). Realistically, how many parties do you attend where you dance? Our guess is not many. Once you remove the expectation of dancing, the idea really is quite exciting rather than disappointing.

Our event coordinators at City Beach have come up with plenty of alternative ideas that will make sure all guests tumble out smiling (except maybe Aunt Cheryl who just wanted to Macarena).

If you want to amp-up the ‘party’ vibe, put on a show! Make your wedding stand out with a magician, contortionist or belly dancers! And if you’re a fan of the limelight yourself, don’t put on a show…BE the show! Prepare a comedy skit, a couple’s performance or bust a move on your way to the way to the bathroom – your guests will certainly be entertained.

Hot tip: this can extend to your guests – how about turn ‘Best boogie to the bathroom’ into a competition for the night?

And if you aren’t after such a high-energy atmosphere, invest in an acoustic live performer to set the tone for your special night. Just enough to get your guests bouncing in their seats but not enough for a full-blown Nutbush.

If you’re after a more sentimental pastime, invest in an ‘Anniversary piñata’. Guests leave messages, jokes, predictions, etc inside the piñata that is then sealed, to be popped on 1 year anniversary. Similarly, each guest can fill out an ‘advice card’ or ‘memory of the couple’ to be read out during the reception.

Our number 1 tip: Always invest in an MC. An MC will help your event run as smoothly as possible and will fill any empty time with entertainment. Most importantly, they’ll take the weight off your shoulders. They’ll take on the role of entertaining your guests, leaving you and your partner to enjoy your special day to the fullest.

Some of the super fun games our mc’s can facilitate for you are;
• The shoe game –sitting back to back, exchange one shoe. Our mc will ask you a list of questions “who is…” hold up the shoe to reflect your answer. Even more fun is audience participation.
• Wedding guest mad-libs. We’ll provide one card to each table and let your guests get creative! Your MC will read out the best cards at the end.
• Challenge your guests to see how well they can interpret emojis, with our “Guess the wedding movie emoji” card. We have seen some crazy answers here – guaranteed a laugh!

In case you’re still not convinced, who could say no to an all-in quiz about the couple, ‘heads or tails’ edition? Every guest participates in a battle to find out who knows the bride and groom best. Champion gets a drink on the couple (oh wait… maybe they just get the glory!)!

Lastly, current rules state that you and your bridal party can dance. And if that's the only dancing happening all night, you better hope you guys are bringing the moves! Perhaps a girls vs boys dance-off, something more choreographed depicting your relationship through the ages or surprise your beau with a little routine just for them.

Above all else, dancing is just one component of what will be the most memorable, fun-filled day of your life. There are so many exciting alternatives to fill your wedding reception that’ll only make the day even more memorable. So relax, get crafty and enjoy your special day.

We meet through mutual friends at our local movie cinema. Nathan was very persistent and now the rest is history.

How did he pop the question?

We were at his family’s holiday house at Lake Conjola for a long weekend. He took us to Pointers Gap lookout, organised some of our closest friends to be hiding in the bushes to capture the moment. It was so special and romantic. A moment we will never forget.

What type of wedding did you plan, what was your theme?

We wanted a timeless, simple and elegant wedding. We wanted lots of romance and love. We had just that.

What quirky features made your wedding unique?

Our photographer Beth!! She was the best! She made our photos so much fun.

Where did you hold the ceremony?

We had our ceremony in the City Beach Pearl room as we had to have our wet weather option due to rain. It was still just as beautiful.

Why did you choose City Beach?

On holiday in Hawaii, Adam organised a limo to take us to a private sunset cruise, where he popped the question on the yacht overlooking the sunset with nibbles and drinks.

What quirky features made your wedding unique?

We loved the sparkler tunnel at the farewell of our reception.

Where did you hold the ceremony?

We held our ceremony at Flagstaff Hill by the cannons overlooking the boat harbour

How did he pop the question?

We were on holidays and I wanted to visit a waterfall…we had a picnic on the bottom and afterwards, Bradley asked if I wanted to climb to the top. Being scared of heights I was a little hesitant, but I did it anyway we climbed to the centre of the waterfall and that’s when he got down on one knee and asked me to be his forever.

Our Wedding theme was classic white with greenery.

Which quirky features made your wedding unique?

We had baby succulents to give our guests as thank you gifts & we had sparklers leaving the exit.

Where did you hold the ceremony?

We had the beach package with City Beach, the opposite side of the lighthouse near the cannons.

We absolutely love the location. Everything was so easy to plan with the help of the staff.

Interview - Judith & Emanuel https://citybeach.events/blog/2019/10/interview-judith-and-emanuel Wedding Date | 19/10/2019

How did you both meet?

We both lived locally and knew of each other through family and friends.

Facebook reconnected us and the rest is history.

How did he pop the question?

We both love the beach, and one of our favourite spots is Bondi beach. As we began to do the bondi to bronte walk, he got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of his life with him.

What type of wedding did you plan, what was your theme?

The theme changed every week hahaha.

We wanted an itimate wedding filled with love with family and friends.

The theme was rustic/elegant and simple. We didn’t want to over do it with flowers or candles, but make it more romantic and intimate.

Which quirky features made your wedding unique?

Not quirky as such, but we wanted to start our reception with a bang. So as we walked out, we asked all our loved ones to join in with a dance. We were lifted up and got the party started!

The DJ said it was the best party entrance!

Where did you hold the ceremony?

The ceremony was at St Francis Xavier Cathedral in Wollongong!

I was so surprised with how many people turned up to the church!

Why did you choose City Beach?

We both have a love for the beach and wanted somewhere close to the water. When we went to Citybeach, I knew it as the place for us!

What was the most memorable moment from the day?

Interview - Tegan & Mitchell https://citybeach.events/blog/2019/10/interview-tegan-and-mitchell Wedding Date | 12/10/2019

How did you both meet?

We swiped right

How did he pop the question?

Mitchell surprised Tegan with a weekend away to Wollongong in September of 2018. He took her to the lighthouse at Flagstaff Hill and while overlooking the water, got down on one knee and asked her to spend forever together.

What type of wedding did you plan, what was your theme?

We stuck to really simple colours, ivory florals with lots of greenery. We liked the rustic wood as well so we used that as part of our centerpieces, place tags and table numbers.

Which quirky features made your wedding unique?

The whales that joined us while Tegan was making her way down the aisle – such a special moment.

Where did you hold the ceremony?

We had booked to hold our ceremony on Flagstaff Hill, at the lighthouse where Mitchell proposed. However, the weather had other plans and City Beach did an amazing job at setting up our ceremony in our function room as back up.

Why did you choose City Beach?

We had decided to get married in Wollongong, so drove down for a weekend and went to a few wedding open days at different venues. When we got to City Beach, it was a totally different experience than any others we had been to earlier in the day. Leanne was so helpful and had made time to answer any questions we had. There was so much included in our package and we felt like that made it so much easier for us. We didn’t have to think about extras, because majority was included. However, they were also so accommodating with being open to us changing things, adding things and were so patient during the whole process. Also, the food is AMAZING!

What was the most memorable moment from the day?

Being pronounced Husband and Wife :)

What was it like dealing with Wedding Coordinator Melissa?

She was so patient and so helpful throughout the entire process of planning the wedding. She would always get back to us so quickly with any questions we had.

What’s your No.1 go to song that had to be included in your playlist?

Pony – Ginuwine. There was no way Mitchell was getting married without dancing to that song hahaha.

Who was your dream team for the day?
Venue | City Beach Function Centre
Celebrant | Julie Rynne - Melose Memorable Moments
Photographer | Pepper Images
Florals | All Ocassions
Cake | Delaneys

Any advice for couples about to tie the knot?
Absolutely. Make sure that as difficult as it can be, you make decisions about your wedding that make YOU happy. Not to please anyone else. There is no ‘right’ way to have a wedding, so be sure that it’s authentic to you and how you want your day to be remembered.
