Interview - Lauren & Daniel
How did you both meet?
We actually met on a soccer field! Sport has been a massive part of both our lives and after many years of spending long weekends at soccer field and netball courts, we scored our best goal yet when we met each other!
How did he pop the question?
Daniel organised a beautiful proposal the day we got our keys to our first home. There were flowers, rose petals, ‘I love you’ signs and some lovely photos of us.
What type of wedding did you plan, what was your theme?
We aimed to create a wedding that represented us as a couple and the things that make up our individual personalities:
- We organised a Candombe performance that represented Daniel’s SOUTH AMERICAN background. We also played traditional ITALIAN music for Lauren’s big Italian family.
- We had motorbikes escort us to the church to represent Daniel’s love of motorbikes, particularly Harley Davidsons.
- The beautiful beach view at City Beach Function Centre created a RELAXING AND CALM vibe. We both love the beach, so having our wedding near the beach was a must!
- The outstanding DJ and band were fantastic and made our wedding ONE BIG PARTY, which was exactly what we wanted.
At the end of the day, we just wanted to be married and celebrate with our loved ones, and that’s exactly what we did. .
Which quirky features made your wedding unique?
The Kombi Vans were amazing!! It added that extra ‘beach feel’ to the whole day. The Candombe performance was also very unique. It’s not every day you get to see Brazilian feather dancers at a wedding.
Where did you hold the ceremony?
St Anthony’s – Austral
Why did you choose City Beach?
As soon as we walked into City Beach, we knew it was the one. We both looked at each other with awe just thinking about holding our reception there. The view was incredible (particularly because of the beach), it could hold up to 280 people, the staff were so accommodating and friendly, and the food was delicious! It ticked all the right boxes and was exactly what we were looking for. .
What was the most memorable moment from the day?
There were so many memorable parts of the day, however Daniel’s speech is something I’ll hold onto forever. Daniel learnt how to speak Italian during the months leading up to our wedding and surprised us all by saying part of his speech in Italian. My family went absolutely wild! It was definitely very special, and a heartfelt way of him officially being welcomed into my large Italian family.
What was it like dealing with Wedding Coordinator Melissa?
An absolute pleasure! I thought I was organised until I met Melissa!!! Everything was so smooth during the lead up to the wedding, which made things so much more exciting and less stressful. Melissa is definitely someone you need to have by your side during the whole process.
What’s your No.1 go to song that had to be included in your playlist?
Suavemente – Elvis Crespo

Any advice for couples about to tie the knot?
Choose City Beach Function Centre!! No need to look anywhere else. They made our day so special in so many ways. Also, if you want to include something on your wedding day, just do it. Don’t second guess yourself. Your wedding is supposed to be one of the best days of your lives, so make it count. Get the sparklers, enjoy the large cake, and drink the best wine. Spend the money where you want it the most. You don’t want the wedding to have passed and be thinking ‘I should have just done that’, but most importantly enjoy the journey and enjoy your day.
